Managing director of Australian company Telford Smith Engineering (TSE) :
“I am quite surprised. Actually I think the exhibition is at a good standard, the booths are at good standard by comparison with China. I think everything is better organized. Obviously everyone communicates more easily in English than in China, I spent half of my life in China so I can compare them very well,” Picone said, during an interview, when asked how he assessed the exhibition.
Asked why he has participated in the exhibition, Picone said he is here to find out about the potential of the Iranian market in order to sell his company’s machineries.
On the kind of visitors to the exhibition, he said people who are more interested in the exhibition would be from the Iranian plastic industry, adding that almost no people from outside of Iran have come to buy machineries at this point of time.
The visitors would mostly want to see the exhibitors of machineries or materials or they simply want to do some business rather buying something here, he added.
Asked about the steps to be taken to improve the conditions of the exhibition, he said, “I really do not have so many criticism,” adding that he goes to exhibitions in all around the world and of course there are bigger ones, but this exhibition is probably bigger than the one in Australia.
He said the timing of the exhibition is also good and that is a good idea to hold the exhibition in the same place in Tehran.
Asked if he would participate in the exhibition next time, he said, “I would say I would definitely participate but we will probably participate on a bigger scale next time….we will probably have a machine running them on the booth to make a bigger impression on the costumers.”
On investing in Iran’s plastic industry, he said, “At this point of time I am free to do anything, there is nothing that tells me I cannot sell my machineries to Iran, nothing whatsoever and I will be very very disappointed if that ever happens.”
Asked how he evaluated Iranian plastic industry’s potential, he said, “I’ve always had an underlying feeling that there was a really good plastic industry in Iran but I would not say that anyone else in Australia have any idea of that … I sold a lot of machineries here and that is what gives me a bright hope that I can sell more.”
On online registration for the exhibition, he said it is better to have an online registration system as it is more modern and professional.
